How to use Restore Faded Photos

Restore Faded Photos brings old prints back to their colours. Fading from the 60s, 70s and 80s (the orange, red or magenta cast, the milky blacks, the yellowed whites) is read from each photo and corrected, and you see the result straight away. Black and white photos are cleaned up and kept black and white: colour isn't added. Paint over dust, specks and scratches to remove them. Your photos are restored in your browser and never uploaded.

Common questions

How do I restore a faded photo?

Add the photo. Its colours are restored automatically, and you can compare before and after, fine-tune, remove spots, then save it.

Can it fix old 70s photos that have turned orange or red?

Yes. That colour cast comes from one of the print's dyes fading faster than the others. Each colour is corrected on its own, so the cast goes and the real colours come back.

Can it remove dust and scratches?

Yes. Choose Fix spots and scratches and paint over them. Each is filled with the texture around it and blended in. You can undo any fix.

Does it work on black and white photos?

Yes. They're made neutral black and white, with the yellowing and fading taken out and the contrast brought back.

Can it turn a black and white photo into colour?

No. Black and white photos stay black and white. Adding colour means guessing what every colour was, and the guesses are often wrong. This tool only brings back what's really in the photo: the yellowing and fading go, the blacks and whites come back, and you can remove spots.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser. Your photos stay on your device.

Does it use AI?

No. It measures each photo's fading and corrects it with the same kind of colour maths photo labs use, so the results are faithful to the photo, never invented.
