How to use Passport Photo
Passport Photo helps you make a passport photo at home at the right size for your country. Pick your country, line up your face with the guides, and download a JPG made at 300 DPI, ready to print or use in a form. Everything happens in your browser, so your photo is never uploaded.
- 1
Take a photo against a plain light wall, then choose it or drop it anywhere on the page.
- 2
Pick your country under Country or document, or choose Custom size.
- 3
Drag and zoom so your face fills the oval, with the top of your head and chin inside the red bands.
- 4
Use Straighten if your head is tilted, and Brighten background if the wall looks grey.
- 5
Press Download photo, or Make a print sheet to fit several copies on one print.
Common questions
What size is a passport photo?
It depends on the country. The UK, New Zealand and Australia use 35 × 45 mm, the United States uses 51 × 51 mm (2 × 2 in) and Canada uses 50 × 70 mm. Always check the official rules for your country.
How big should the head be in a passport photo?
Each country sets its own range. For example, the UK asks for 29 to 34 mm from chin to crown, and New Zealand and Australia ask for 32 to 36 mm. The guides show the range for the country you pick.
Can I take my own passport photo at home?
Yes, many countries accept photos taken at home if they meet the rules. Check the official rules for your country, as some, like the Philippines and Malaysia, take the photo at the office.
Why do passport photos get rejected?
Common reasons are shadows on the face or background, a smile or open mouth, glare on glasses, a head that is too big or small, and a blurry or edited photo.
Is my passport photo uploaded anywhere?
No. The photo is made in your browser and stays on your device.
Is the passport photo tool free?
Yes. The free plan gives you 5 downloads a day at full quality with no watermark.
