Video Compressor
Make videos smaller for WhatsApp, email and more.
How to use Video Compressor
Video Compressor makes your videos smaller, right in your browser, so they're quick to send by WhatsApp, attach to an email or upload anywhere. Choose what it's for, trim the start or end if you like, and see roughly how small it will be before you start. Your video is never uploaded: it's made smaller on your own phone or computer.
- 1
Press Choose video and pick a video from your phone or computer, or drop it onto the page. MP4 and iPhone MOV videos work.
- 2
Choose what it's for: Smaller, same look; For WhatsApp & messages; For email (under 24 MB); or an exact size in MB.
- 3
To keep only part of it, drag the handles at each end of the filmstrip, like trimming in your phone's Photos app. Tap the strip to see a moment; exact times are under Precise times. The estimated size updates as you go.
- 4
Press Compress Video and keep the tab open while it's made on your device, then Download or Save to your photos.
Common questions
How do I make a video smaller to send?
Choose the video, pick For WhatsApp & messages or For email, press Compress Video, then save it. It's made on your device and is usually far smaller.
Is my video uploaded?
No. Your video is made smaller on your own device, in your browser. It isn't uploaded to our servers.
How do I get a video under 25 MB for email?
Choose For email. It aims for under 24 MB, which fits Gmail and Outlook. For long videos, trimming it shorter keeps it sharper.
Will it work with iPhone videos?
Yes. iPhone videos (MOV, including HEVC) work in Safari on iPhone and Mac, and in Chrome and Edge on most computers.
What about ProRes videos?
Web browsers can't read ProRes. Export the video as an MP4 (H.264 or HEVC) from your editing app or phone first, then compress that.
What format is the smaller video?
An MP4 (H.264 video, AAC sound), which plays on every phone, computer, TV and app.
Does a failed or cancelled video use a download?
No. It only counts once your smaller video is ready. If something goes wrong, you stop it, or it isn't any smaller, nothing is used.
