How to use Sign a PDF

Sign a PDF adds your signature, initials, the date or a line of text to any PDF, right in your browser. Draw your signature, sign on your phone and send it across, or use a picture of it. Your items are added on top of the original PDF, so its text stays sharp and searchable and the file stays about the same size. The PDF is never uploaded.

Common questions

How do I sign a PDF for free?

Open the PDF here, press + Signature, draw or add your signature, drag it into place and press Download signed PDF.

Is an electronic signature legal?

For most everyday documents, yes, in many countries including New Zealand, Australia, the UK, the EU and the US. Some documents, such as wills and some property, court or government forms, need a handwritten or witnessed signature, so check that whoever you're sending it to accepts electronic signatures. This isn't legal advice.

Is my PDF uploaded?

Will signing change the rest of my PDF?

No. Your signature and any text are added on top. The original pages, text and pictures are kept exactly as they were.

Can I sign a password-protected PDF?

No. Locked PDFs aren't opened or unlocked here. Ask whoever sent it for an unlocked copy.

Is it free?

Yes. Each signed PDF counts as one of your free downloads for the day. Credits or Pro give you more.
